Sunderland stun Chelsea 1-0, Brighton climb to second: a wild Premier League Sunday

Premier League matchday 10 delivered a wild Sunday. Sunderland stunned Chelsea 1-0 at the Stadium of Light thanks to an Enzo Le Fee penalty, Brighton beat Brentford 2-0 to climb to second, Liverpool got back to winning ways 3-1 at Crystal Palace and Bournemouth made it eight wins in a row at Ipswich. In the late kick-off, Manchester United and Aston Villa shared a spectacular 4-4 draw at Old Trafford.

Le Fee, the penalty that sank Chelsea

The Stadium of Light enjoyed one of those nights that can define a season. In the 36th minute, Brian Brobbey won a penalty after a tussle with Levi Colwill, and Enzo Le Fee converted it with composure. Sunderland led at half-time for the first time this season and did not let go. The defence held firm after the break, and Danny Welbeck headed over the bar in stoppage time. A second win of the season for Sunderland: the club climbs off the bottom with eight points. Chelsea, fifth on 16 points, drop out of the top four heading into the break and host Leeds on November 21.

Brighton go second, the Gomez thunderbolt

At the Amex, Brighton were ruthless. Diego Gomez opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a stunning strike, then Pascal Gross doubled the lead from the spot while Brentford finished with ten men. The Seagulls climb to second, five points behind Arsenal. Brighton belong in the race for the European places.

Liverpool get going again, Palace hit rock bottom

At Selhurst Park, Liverpool got back to winning ways. Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring with a header in the 40th minute from a Szoboszlai free-kick, Florian Wirtz doubled the lead and Alexander Isak sealed it in the 89th. Eddie Nketiah pulled one back from the spot in stoppage time. For Crystal Palace it is a fourth straight defeat: the Eagles are bottom and the pressure is mounting on Pierre Sage.

Bournemouth, eight in a row, and chaos at Old Trafford

Bournemouth's run goes on: Evanilson opened the scoring in the fifth minute, Leif Davis scored an own goal in the 46th, and despite a Jack Clarke penalty in the 72nd, the Cherries won 2-1 at Ipswich — eight straight wins. At Old Trafford, Aston Villa led 2-0 inside four minutes, through Alysson in the first minute and Nicolas Jackson in the fourth — the earliest United had ever been 2-0 down in the Premier League. Bruno Fernandes pulled one back from the spot in the 16th and Youri Tielemans scored against his former club in the 44th to make it 2-2 at half-time. But a John McGinn penalty in the 48th and Leon Goretzka in the 53rd restored the visitors' two-goal lead. United refused to give in: Joshua Zirkzee pulled one back in the 92nd and Patrick Dorgu headed in the equaliser in the 96th, from a Bruno Fernandes cross. A 4-4 draw: United, who started the day in 19th, have now gone eight league games without a win.
