Gauthier stays red-hot: 10 goals in five games as Ducks rally past Flames 5-3
Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome, the Anaheim Ducks trailed 3-1 after one period, their starting goalie already pulled, and the building loud. With 1:34 left in regulation, it was 4-3 Anaheim — and once again, the goal belonged to Cutter Gauthier. The 5-3 comeback win over the Calgary Flames stretched the Ducks' winning streak to four games and Gauthier's goal streak to five. In those five games, he has scored 10 times.
The goal that decided it
With the clock winding down, Leo Carlsson worked the puck from behind the net to Mikael Granlund, who slid it across to Gauthier in the right circle. The one-timer beat Dustin Wolf to the short side. It was Gauthier's 12th goal of the season and the 10th of his five-game tear — a run in which he has also collected 13 points in seven games. Nikita Nesterenko added an empty-netter with 14 seconds left to seal the 5-3 final. Carlsson finished with a goal and an assist, while Granlund and Beckett Sennecke each picked up two assists.
Calgary's dream start, erased
The Flames could hardly have started better. William Stromgren opened the scoring at 2:23 of the first period, Joel Hanley made it 2-1 at 16:29 with his first goal since April 5, 2025 — ending a 74-game drought — and Joel Farabee finished a power play at 19:02. Three goals in a period, a season high for Calgary, with a five-game home winning streak on the line. Then Anaheim started chipping away. Jeff Malott and Tristan Luneau answered in the second period, and Carlsson tied it 3-3 on the power play just 55 seconds into the third. The Flames never led again.
Husso, the quiet hero
The comeback needed a change in goal, too. Lukas Dostal allowed three goals on 11 shots and did not return for the second period. Ville Husso came in cold, stopped all 10 shots he faced, and left with the win. At the other end, Wolf made 24 saves and fell to 3-5-1. Carlsson's night also carried a milestone: with his assist, the 20-year-old centre reached 100 NHL assists.
A team that never stops scoring
The Ducks are 9-7-1 and 5-1-1 over their last seven games, and they have scored at least five goals in each of those seven games — the kind of run that turns a good week into a statement. Anaheim now hosts the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, while Calgary welcomes the Philadelphia Flyers the same night, still looking for the form that produced three first-period goals on Friday.
